Over the last year or so, I’ve made an effort to use my alarm as a last resort. During the week I would wake up before it went off about half the time. This only works if you are giving yourself enough time in bed, which for me is a little over eight hours.
With my newfound open schedule, I’ve been trying to figure out how much my body would sleep if I never used an alarm.
So far I have been all over the place. I keep my bedtime routine consistent: start reading around 11 and asleep by 11:30ish. Some days I wake up before 7 and others I sleep past 9.
On the days that I workout hard, it seems like I need 9 hours of sleep and on my off days or easier days, I wake up naturally after about 7. I avoid working out, napping, or drinking caffeine/alcohol late in the day so those shouldn’t be interfering either.
Hopefully it stabilizes soon.
