I spent the weekend wandering Seattle and reconnecting with an old college buddy, which gave me the perfect opportunity to test out the new short form video apps.
Instagram’s cinema feature really sets it apart. I expect Apple will incorporate something similar in their next release. It makes every video feel instantly more professional and dream like.
The time differences are interesting. Vine users get 7ish seconds while Instagramers get 15. 7 is way nicer for consumption, but creators will appreciate the freedom that comes with a quarter of a minute.
It is really annoying that you cannot import videos from your camera roll. While wandering downtown we stumbled across a midnight bike polo match and I took an awesome Instagram video of it. While the video was processing the app crashed and I lost the video. I can’t recover the video and this never would have happened if I could have recorded it in my camera roll.
Short videos are the best way to capture the essence of a moment. They certainly do a better job than any picture or panaroma I can take with my iPhone. It will be cool to watch the medium mature.
